Financial Aid

UC STUDENTS

Eligible Students
Current UC Berkeley students may be eligible for Summer Financial Aid if you have completed the 2009-10 FAFSA by April 15, 2010, have a complete financial aid file for aid year 2009-10, are not blocked or dismissed, and are enrolled in at least 6 units at UC Berkeley during the summer. There is no exception to the 6 unit minimum required for aid consideration. The 6 units may be earned in one single summer session, or in any combination of the five summer sessions. You are not required to take all 6 units in only one session, but all 6 units must be earned at UC Berkeley, other UC campuses or a combination of UC Berkeley and other UC campuses.

If you are a newly admitted Freshman or Transfer student, or a readmitted Returning student you must complete the 2010 Summer Financial Aid Application (available February 2010) and both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 FAFSA by May 15, 2010; there are no exceptions to this deadline. You must also ensure that Berkeley’s school code (001312) has been added to both FAFSAs by May 15th. If Berkeley’s school code is not added to both FAFSAs by May 15th your application will be denied and you will not receive financial assistance for the summer 2010 term. You may click on the following link to ensure that Berkeley’s school code has been added to both of the required FAFSAs: www.fafsa.ed.gov.

If you received UC grants during the 2009-2010 academic year, you may be eligible for a Summer Fee Grant to cover your summer registration, campus, and course fees. You can check your grant eligibility by using the SummerAid Estimator when it becomes available in early March 2010.

Ineligible Students
If you are not a UC Berkeley student, you are on the degree list for Spring 2010, you are a foreign student, your enrollment is blocked, you have been dismissed, you have already graduated from UC Berkeley, you have not filed a 2009-10 FAFSA, your 2009-10 Financial Aid file is incomplete, or if you are enrolled in less than 6 units you are not eligible for summer financial aid.

Estimator
UCB Students can check their summer aid eligibility with the SummerAid Estimator which will be available in early March. The estimator allows you to input a wide variety of UC Berkeley summer courses, in any combination of sessions, to determine the type and amount of aid you are eligible to receive this summer. The estimator is not available to any newly admitted or readmitted (returning) student until your application for financial aid has been processed and your financial aid file is complete. The estimator CANNOT determine aid eligibilty for Intercampus or EAP courses.

VISITING STUDENTS

Visiting students should consult their home institution for information about financial aid for summer study at Berkeley. UC Berkeley can coordinate summer tuition payments from other schools, but does not offer financial aid to visiting students.

WORK STUDY

2010-2011 academic year work-study may be used during the summer beginning June 1, 2010. If you intend to use your work-study during the summer, you must have a complete financial aid file and a 2010-11 Official Offer with work-study listed. Work-study money earned over the summer (beginning June 1st) will be deducted from your 2010-11 work-study award.
