Reading & Composition (R&C) courses teach you how to write at the level which the University expects of its students. They offer essential preparation for your other University courses, many of which will require substantive writing assignments. Most UC Berkeley students must complete two semesters of R&C. Some students test out of one or both semesters. Be sure to take your R&C courses for a letter grade: you must earn a grade of C- or better in order to fulfill the requirement.
